GBLT will send you an annual tax assessment for water system charge for residents.
With this tax, the Water Board regulates the amount of water in your area. For example by building and maintaining dikes and pumping stations. With this the Water Board prevents flooding and shortages of water. The Water Board also uses these funds to keep the water in ditches, ponds and lakes clean.
Who receives this tax assessment?
The resident water system charge is for residents of a housing unit. We impose this tax per housing unit. Do multiple occupants live at the same address? Then only one of them will receive the tax assessment.
GBLT uses information from the municipality on January 1st to determine which of the residents will receive the assessment. This is either the oldest residents or the residents who has lived there the longest.
This tax is equal for every housing unit. It doesn't matter how many residents live in a house. Or how high the value of the house is. You can find this rate on the rates page of your Water Board.
Relocating
You will receive an assessment for the entire year for the housing unit you live in on January 1st. Do you relocate after January 1st? Then you still have to pay the tax assessment in full. You will not get a refund. However, in case of a sale, the notary often settles part of these taxes with the new owner.
