Water Board Tax
The Water Board maintains the dikes. And provides enough and clean water in your area. Therefore you can live, work and relax safely. The Water Board funds this with the taxes you pay. Every year the Water Board sets the rates for various taxes. This can be a fixed amount. Or a variable amount, like a percentage of your property value.
Your tax money is used on 4 things:
- Strong levees. A dike is tough and strong and protects against high water. To keep it that way, we check and strengthen them. This keeps your feet dry.
- Clean water. We purify your household wastewater, such as toilet and shower drains. We do that at our sewage treatment plants. Then it flows back into rivers and canals.
- Sufficient water, If it's dry for a long time, we bring water in. When it rains heavily, we hold water in water storage or drain it away. Under normal circumstances, we provide sufficient water for agriculture, nature and the city. In special circumstances, we try to prevent flooding or drought.
- Enjoying water. We ensure good water quality, so you can enjoy the water and fish and aquatic plants can thrive.
