Water Board Tax
The Water Board maintains the dikes. And provides enough and clean water in your area. Therefore you can live, work and relax safely. The Water Board funds this with the taxes you pay. Every year the Water Board sets the rates for various taxes. This can be a fixed amount. Or a variable amount, like a percentage of your property value.

Each taxtype is used for a specific task done by the Waterboard. for example water systems charge is used to ensure a safe and healthy living environment. The proceeds from water purification charge and pollution charge are used for cleaning sewage water from residents and companies. This way we keep our feet dry and have safe and clean water.

Safe dikes
They maintain and manage the dykes around the polders so that they are strong enough to protect us from water.
Adequate water levels
They maintain water levels in canals and ditches. The aim is to balance this out perfectly; not too high, not too low. The pumping stations get rid of excess water in the polders.
Clean surface waters
They monitor water quality in waterways and canals for healthy aquatic life.

Purified sewage
They clean the wastewater that enters the sewer through your shower, toilet and sink. Then the treated water is pumped back into canals.
