The Water purification charge for residential premises depends on the number of residents that reside at an address.
Do you live alone?
Then you pay for 1 pollution unit (1 v.e.).
Do you live with other people?
Then you pay for 3 pollution units (3 v.e.) Why 3 and not another number? This is because the number of pollution units (v.e.) that apply to residents is determined in the Water Board Act Article 122h. The article states that households in a residence that consists of 2 or more people pay for 3 pollution units (v.e.) . There is an exeption for single-person households: they pay for 1 pollution unit (v.e.). Therefore, you also pay for 3 pollution units if you live as a couple.
What is a pollution unit (v.e.)?
A pollution unit (v.e.) represents the amount of pollution in the water. A multi-person household creates more wastewater than a single-person household. Therefore, a multi-person household pays for more pollution units. (v.e.) The number of pollution units (v.e.) determines the amount of treatment charge you pay.
